Garrett Mason claims to “support traditional marriage.” He would have voters believe that Sen. John Nutting is against traditional marriage, based on his vote for LD 1020. He is not.

Nutting is a Presbyterian elder with strong religious faith. Married for more than 30 years, he supports traditional marriage. He also supports same-sex couples’ right to wed. He believes marriage should be available to all and voted for LD 1020, “An Act to End Discrimination in Civil Marriage and Affirm Religious Freedom.”

Nutting has voted on many other issues, too, and I hope voters will look beyond Mason’s misleading single-issue propaganda. Nutting’s strong legislative record of supporting schools, working to preserve our environment, caring for the mentally ill and providing tax relief for Maine’s citizens is worth support.

He has worked hard for District 17 for many years and will continue to do so in the next two years.
