AUBURN — Two lead renovation, repair and painting courses have been scheduled for landlords. One will take place on Friday, Oct. 15, at Central Maine Community College in Auburn; another will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston. Each course will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is limited to 20 participants.

The course cost is $95. A reduced fee of $25 will be available for landlords that participate in the LLAP (landlord lead assistance program) or lead program and landlords that have an owner-occupied multi-family building. The course satisfies a new federal law requiring all landlords and contractors doing any renovations on pre-1978 homes to be certified.

Upon completion of the class, participants will become “Certified Renovators” who then can apply for certification through the US EPA.

The course also complements lead poisoning prevention efforts in Lewiston and Auburn led by the Lead Safe Community Committee and the Healthy Homes Healthy Families partnership which include numerous partners, including city staff, social service providers and local public health professionals.

To register for a reduced fee for one of the upcoming trainings or for more information on lead poisoning prevention, contact Healthy Androscoggin at 795-5990.
