Mainers are officially three weeks from selecting our next governor. What passed for campaigning in recent weeks will pale in comparison to the avalanche of debate we’ll see in the next 21 days.
It’s difficult to pay attention to so much information for so long, so we’re hoping to make it easier for you — our readers — to select among the candidates (five declared and five write-in).
Every day, for the next two weeks, we’ll bring you stories about the candidates’ views on topics that are important to you: education, jobs, taxes, pension, gay marriage, health care, creationism and abortion, among other social issues and policy decisions. And, every day, we’ll include surveys online and in the newspaper for you to keep track of how your views align with the candidates.
At the end of the project, it is our hope that you will tally your surveys to help you focus on which candidate best represents your views.
In our rush-a-day world, we hope this series helps you differentiate between the candidates and choose the person who you think will best lead Maine for the coming four years.
