AUBURN — Robin Dow Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, at the Alden M. Gayton Post 31, American Legion, 426 Washington St. The board of directors will meet at 10 a.m. Nominations of new officers, with acceptance of same for 2011, will be announced. Bingo will be played following the meeting and a bag lunch.
There will be a food sale. Pies and cakes are welcomed, along with many small-packaged items containing cookies, candy or biscuits purchased by seniors who live alone and do not wish to buy in large quantities. Some of the members may have garden vegetables to contribute. For those who do not care to cook, cash donations are acceptable and appreciated.
Tickets, for $5, will be on sale for the Halloween party Wednesday, Oct. 27, at which time a prize will be given for the most original Halloween costume. Tickets will also be sold for the Thanksgiving dinner, for $5, to be held Nov. 10 at the Green Ladle with Sandy Mesbit furnishing the musical entertainment, and for the Christmas dinner, for $5, to be held Dec. 6 at Ramada Inn, with Ron Niggle combining accordion and organ music on his keyboard. One may pay for the three tickets one one check or buy each separately. The Oct. 13 and 27 meetings are the only meetings the tickets will be sold as no meetings will held during November and December.
There were 56 members and one guest present at the Sept. 22 meeting with President Merry Strout presiding. Rita Fortin was welcomed as a new member. Pam Carrier was welcomed back after a period of absence. As the meeting opened, Chaplain Pat Donohue led members in a moment of silence in memory of honorary member Eudora “Dodi” Juneau, who passed away Sept. 19 at her residence. This was followed by all joining in to repeat the Lord’s Prayer.
Trip chairwoman Evelyn Sawin reported every seat taken for the Rangeley foliage trip held Oct. 8. The bus left the American Legion Post 31 with a stop later at the Height of the Land, though the rainy weather was a hindrance for a good view of the foliage. Dinner was served at Loon Lodge.
Attendance prize winners were Leona Ford and George Herrick Sr.; pot of gold, Albert Cote, Yvette Frechette and Mary Tyler; mystery prize winners, Pat Records, Lucy Cowles and Madge Gardner.
