RUMFORD — A renovation, repair and painting course will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the Mexico Town Hall. The course is designed to inform landlords and contractors how to perform maintenance safely on homes with lead-based paint.

Under the new EPA Lead rule, which went into effect in April 2010, contractors performing projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified by attending a RRP course. During the course, participants will learn specific work practices to prevent lead contamination and other requirements of meeting this EPA Rule.

A certified instructor from Maine Labor Group on Health Inc. will teach the course. The course is limited to 20 participants. Preregistration is required. For information about vouchers for landlords, call the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition at 364-7408.

The course is offered with support from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection through the Lead Poisoning Prevention Fund and is being organized locally by the River Valley Healthy Communities.

For more information and to preregister, call Sandy at 364-7408 or e-mail [email protected].
