LEWISTON — Acquilla “Peg” Muller, 91, of Lewiston, died suddenly Saturday, Oct. 9, at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born July 21, 1919 in Buffalo, N.Y., the daughter George W. and Edna (Bates) Stettenbenz. She graduated from high school in Amherst, N.Y., received her Bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College in 1940 and graduated from the Buffalo City Hospital School of Medical Technology in 1941.
She married Ernest P. Muller, professor emeritus of history at Bates College, in 1947, and they were married for 61 years until his death in 2008.
Mrs. Muller worked for 25 years at the Bates College Theater as the house manager and box office manager. She also worked for 20 years as a medical technologist in the laboratory at the Central Maine Medical Center.
She was involved in the Girl Scouts as a troop leader for many years and as a member of the Dirigo council register for three years. She was also was a member of the Lewiston/Auburn League of Women Voters and a volunteer on the pediatric floor at Central Maine Medical Center.
Peg enjoyed travelling extensively with her husband, gardening, knitting, embroidery, camping with her family, backpacking and hiking on the Appalachian Trail, as well as classical music and the opera.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Leonard and husband, Thomas, of Mansfield, Mass.; her son, Peter Muller and wife, Brunilda, of Gorham, Maine; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Haag of Rochester, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Ann Kuhaneck; and her brother, Franklin Stettenbenz.
