MINOT — Aldrof Lee Stone, 88, of Minot, died peacefully Monday, Oct. 11, at his home in Minot.
Al was born in Canton, N.Y., on Feb. 15, 1922, the son of Lewis and Hazel (Thurston) Stone. He married Betty Keene of West Poland on April 10, 1953, and together they owned and operated Stone and Irish Auto Body Company for more than 50 years. In his earlier years, prior to opening his own business, Al worked at Woodworth’s bicycle repair shop and with the Civil Conservation Corps.
Al loved the outdoors and had many different interests, including fishing, hunting, camping up north on his favorite Maine lakes and ponds, flying his own airplane, riding (and polishing) Harley-Davidson motorcycles, working in his flower gardens and maintaining his lawns. Al was a registered Maine guide for several years. He was a 35-year member of Tyrian Lodge No. 73 AF and AM and St. Andrews Royal Arch Chapter.
Al is survived by his wife, Betty, of Minot; four children, Rodney Stone and his wife, Bonnie, Rhonda (Stone) Rackliffe and her husband, Randy, Randy Stone and his wife, Shelley, and Shelly Stone and her partner, Bob Barnard, all of Minot; along with eight grandchildren, Aaron Stone, Audrey (Stone) LaFrance, Emmi Rackliffe, Joshua Rackliffe, Whitney Stone, Nicholas Plourde, Debbie Chase, Michael Lothrop and Stephen Lothrop; and 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Josephine Duguay of Auburn and Alice Whirley of New York; and one brother, Alfred Stone of Oxford.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Arlene Farrell; and two brothers, Raymond Stone of West Paris and Franklin Stone of Mechanic Falls. Online condolences may be shared with his family at www.chandlerfunerals.com.
