WATERFORD — The 11th annual Waterford 5K Fall Foliage Race will take place on Saturday, Oct. 16. The route will begin in Waterford Village by the Common.
A 1-mile fun run for ages 12 and under will begin at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $5. The 5K road race and fitness walk will start at noon. Cost is $15 in advance and $18 on race day.
The following roads will be closed from 11:20 a.m. to 1 p.m. to accommodate participants: Route 35/37 from Mill Hill to Waterford Flat, Plummer Hill from the old cider mill down to Waterford Flat and Sweden Road from Bear Pond Road to Route 35/37.
An awards ceremony will follow.
The Greater Bridgton Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce will also sponsor a chili cook-off on Waterford Common. The event is free for runners. There will be raffles, including ones for a kayak and a quilt.
Applications are available in local stores, at www.waterfordfall5k.com or register at active.com. Funds will benefit scholarships for graduating Waterford seniors, given in memory of Tony Waldeier, a former teacher and principal at the Waterford Memorial Elementary School.
