WINTHROP — The Charles M. Bailey Public Library will host an interactive workshop by local author Maryam Mermey at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19.

The workshop, entitled “Building Character through the Expressive Arts: the Power of Inclusion,” will focus on bully prevention and is directed toward children and their families.

Mermey, who has a Bachelor of Arts in dance and poetry, a Master of Arts in counseling psychology and a Master of Education in arts and education, said she aims to “empower students to claim their voices.” She is the author of the book “New to the Forests of Selay,” which mirrors the central theme of the workshop.
