DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s Auburn-Lewiston Clubhouse is looking to the public for help.

The club has a growing photography program and is hoping to expand the number of members able to participate in the weekly sessions.

Knowing that the holidays are right around the corner and that people often update their digital equipment around this time, the club’s photography program is asking that people consider donating their older digital cameras to the Boys & Girls Club.

We are looking for hand-held digital cameras with 5 megapixels or better. Anyone with a digital camera that they would be willing to donate to the program is asked to contact me at 782-2446. — Andie Hannon, unit director

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our family has a nice dollhouse that needs a new home. Could you please tell us the place that accepts them? Thank you. — Lloyd via e-mail

ANSWER: If you are referring to the charity that wants old dollhouses to fix up, you can contact Sister Bourassa, 786-0062, at St. Mary’s Residences.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Hopefully, I can help with the question posed by Ron Jean of Lewiston on Oct. 4. Ron is on the fringe of two signals; 106.9 based in Rockland and 106.7 in Windham.

106.9 is a part of the WBACH Classical Network. 106.7 was a simulcast with 106.3 playing rock and known as “The Bone.”

Earlier this year, Nassau Broadcasting entered into an agreement to sell 106.7 to the Presence Radio Network, which is affiliated with the Catholic Radio Network.

For about two months prior to Presence Radio Network taking over programming control of 106.7, a brief message was played on 106.7, as Ron describes, that informed listeners of the station that The Bone was now exclusively heard on 106.3. This is where is he getting the 106.3 reference from.

Because Ron in on the fringe of both of these signals and they are adjacent to each other (right next to each other), he was hearing 106.7 bleed into 106.9.

Hopefully this helps. Thanks. — Pat Collins, senior VP/market manager, Nassau Broadcasting Maine

ANSWER: Thank you for taking the time to offer an explanation for this mystery. Another explanation was offered from Canada.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Greetings. I just happened to stumble across this story while surfing radio-related websites. What Ron Jean is hearing on 106.3 is more than likely a test transmission from a new radio station in Montreal, CKIN. — Dan, Maple Ridge, B.C., Canada

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you to Adrianne Dunn of East Waterboro for the great suggestion for the Ravely website for crochet and knitting patterns.

She was right. I have never seen so many crochet and knitting patterns for free.

This website also took me to Bernat Yarns’ website. I found this website by typing in the yarn I use. This is the only yarn that I use to make large afghans and small baby stuff for my grandkids. It’s the softest yarn I’ve ever used.

This website also has free patterns, and you can purchase their yarn as well. I’ve been looking for baby booties pattern, and both websites have great ones.

Thank you, Adrianne! — Carol Gott, Sabattus
