AUBURN — A local man convicted of forgery in connection with a scheme to print and cash bogus checks written on accounts for the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department and two local courts is hoping to be out of prison in time for Christmas.

James Kirk Carver, 27, was in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Wednesday to argue that he should be entitled to a reduced sentence.

Carver, through his attorney, Verne Paradie, petitioned the court for a review of the time he served before he was sentenced. Carver claimed he was entitled to up to 28 days off for good behavior during his detention at the Maine State Prison.

He is scheduled to be released on Jan. 12, at the earliest.

Carver was sentenced to serve nine years in prison, with all but three years suspended, plus three years of probation on his forgery conviction.

He was sentenced on other charges to five years in prison, with all but three years suspended, plus three years of probation. The two sentences were set to run concurrently.
