LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center will offer a variety of programs for breast cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. All programs are free and early registration is encouraged.

A “Tickled Pink Breast Cancer Awareness Talk” will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at CMMC. Peggy Akers, NP, a breast cancer survivor, will share her experiences as a way to increase awareness and empower those affected by the disease. There will be a dessert buffet and a “Tickled Pink” goodie bag.

A free screening day will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Sam and Jennie Bennett Breast Care Center at CMMC. Services will include a breast exam, pap test and digital mammogram provided by Dr. Alicia Koteles, Dr. Stephanie Aung and Kathi Varney, NP.

Screening is open to women ages 40 and over who qualify via insurance or income guidelines. For more information, contact Dempsey Center Breast Health Outreach Patient Navigator Chriss Hayden at 330-7736.

“Finding Strength Together: A New Tool for Couples” will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Oct. 25 to Nov. 15, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Auburn. Couples will learn to discuss issues that can arise during the cancer journey and problem solving techniques to face the challenges that cancer can have on a relationship.

Dinner and dessert will be provided and participation is limited to six couples. The program is made possible by a grant from the Breast Cancer Fund of National Philanthropic Trust.

An evening of pampering for those living with breast cancer will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Healthy Beauty Wellness Spa. Services offered will include mini facials, gentle oil massage, paraffin dips polishing and makeup application. Light refreshments will be served and space is limited to 20 participants.
