FARMINGTON — Janet I. Metcalf, 68, of Strong, passed away Oct. 5, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 16,1941, in New Vineyard, the daughter of Merwyn A. and Jenny A. (Merrill) Withey. As a young lady, Janet went from Strong High School to work at Franklin Shoe before working for a few years at Forster’s Manufacturing in Dryden. She later moved on to work at Farmington Shoe and Bass Shoe. In the late 1980s, Janet went to work at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington as a certified nurse’s assistant. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and did a little painting. She was very involved in her work but did take the time to have a garden.

Janet is survived by two sons, Glenn L. Metcalf of Farmington and Gene L. Metcalf and his wife, Deborah, of Texas; one grandson; 10 step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; her sister, Joyce E. Dubay and her husband, Lowell Jr., of New Vineyard; an aunt, Priscilla White of Phillips; several nieces, nephews, cousins, many friends; and a special friend, Charles Raymond of Rangeley.

She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Alvin Withey; and long time companion, Roscoe Libby.
