The Lisbon and Sabattus state Senate race is between John Nutting (incumbent, Democrat) and Garrett Mason (challenger, Republican).

Nutting voted for LD 1495, the tax bill that would have established 102 different categories of goods and services that would be taxed, such as taxing automobile repairs. On LD 290, Nutting voted against a bill that would have allowed people to buy their health insurance across state lines. Voting no on that bill helped maintain the monopoly that three health insurance companies in Maine enjoy.

Imagine if health insurance companies had to compete for the public’s business.

Nutting’s judgment does not make sense in those instances.

I believe that Mason would have voted against the new tax categories and would have voted yes to allow Mainers to buy health insurance across state lines.

I will vote for Garrett Mason because he will represent all the people of District 17.
