BREWER (AP) — Students in Brewer, Maine, are picking up a pointers about how to play rock ‘n’ roll guitar in after-school classes funded by horror author Stephen King and his wife, Tabitha.

The first of the free classes began Wednesday, with 14 students learning the parts of the guitar and the names of the strings.

The Bangor Daily News says the classes are funded through a $10,000 grant from the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation. Besides writing books, Stephen King has played rhythm guitar for The Rock Bottom Remainders, a semi-musical rock band composed primarily of best-selling authors who play benefit concerts.

Brewer school officials say the middle school guitar class is at capacity, but that openings remain in the high school class.
