PARIS — Shae Godbout punched in a direct kick with 23 minutes left to play, scoring the eventual game-winning goal and giving Lewiston a 2-1 victory over Oxford Hills in a girls’ soccer game Saturday. It was the Blue Devils second victory of the season.

The Blue Devils (2-11-0) struck first in the opening half when Kenzie Sullivan scored on a feed from Emily Dixon.

The Vikings (2-10-4) responded with a goal in the second half. Mariah Martin did the honors for Oxford Hills.

The game was even, with Blue Devils holding a slim advantage in shots, 14-12.

Georges Valley 5, Monmouth 0

THOMASTON — Jill Bradbury scored a hat trick as Georges Valley stampeded Monmouth 5-0 in MVC girls’ soccer action Saturday.

The Bucks (13-0) jumped out to a 5-0 first half lead, before letting off the reigns a bit in the second half.

Goalie Kelsie Hilton made 14 saves for the Mustangs (6-5-2), while Kennadi Grover repelled three for Monmouth.

Hebron 4, Gould 2

BETHEL — Janelle Bradish recorded a pair of goals to lead Hebron to a 4-2 victory over Gould in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Sarah Doyon opened the scoring to put Gould up 1-0 two minutes into the second half. But the Lumberjacks (5-1-1) responded with four unanswered goals to groom the win.

Emily Wyman and Sarah Markey scored the remaining Hebron goals.

Buckfield 1, Vinalhaven 1

BUCKFIELD — Danielle Patrie used an Abby Bragg assist and scored with 37:30 left to play for Buckfield as the Bucks (3-6-2) and Vinalhaven (4-6-1) played to 1-1 tie after double overtime in a girls’ soccer game Saturday.

In the first half, Izza Drury scored an unassisted goal in the first half. Vinalhaven outshot Buckfield, 26-13 and held the advantage in corners at 11-6.

Field hockey

Holderness 5, Hebron 1

HEBRON — Stephanie Symekco notched a pair of second half goals to lead Holderness to a 5-1 tilt over Hebron in girls’ soccer action Saturday.

Moeko Ogawa tied the score at 1-1 for the Lumberjacks (2-4) at the 16:30 mark of the second half. But Holderness (3-2-4) rattled off four unanswered goals to secure the win.

Goalie Mariah Mosher made 11 saves for Hebron, while Abigail Guerra turned back six shots to earn the win in net for Holderness.

Boys’ soccer

Lewiston 3, Oxford Hills 1

LEWISTON — Caleb Leinow and Eric Hall each scored a goal in the second half as Lewiston slipped away from Oxford Hills with a 3-1 victory in a boys’ soccer game Saturday.

In the first half, the Blue Devils got on the scoreboard first when Shobow Saban scored on a Benji Saban assist. The Vikings came right back and tied it when Zack Kimball scored, unassisted.

Lewiston dominated the game, outshooting the Vikings, 25-5, and held the advantage in corners at 7-1. Lewiston goalie Scott Ouellette made three saves.

Buckfield 3, Vinalhaven 1

BUCKFIELD — Cam Allen scored on a penalty shot and Alan Hedrick topped off Buckfield’s 3-1 victory over Vinalhaven with his goal with a minute left in a boys’ game Saturday.

After a scoreless first half, the Bucks took a 2-0 lead when Alan Hedrick and Allen scored in the second half. Vinalhaven (6-5-1) closed to within a point, but Hedrick scored his second goal.

Buckfield goalie Kasey Robertson stopped 11 shots and the Bucks (7-4) outshot Vinalhaven, 21-13.

Mt. Abram 1, Jay 0

JAY — Parker Kennedy used a Kyle Matthews feed and scored with 3:05 left in the game, steering Mt. Abram (5-2-7) to a slim 1-0 lead over Jay (1-10-2) in a boys’ soccer game Saturday.

The teams played through a scoreless first half before Kenney settled the matter with his goal.

The Roadrunners outshot the Tigers, 11-3, and Mt. Abram goalie Josh Beedie made three saves.

Hebron 7, Gould 0

BETHEL — Sam Blanchet posted a hat trick as Hebron cultivated a 7-0 shutout over Gould in boys’ soccer action Saturday.

The Lumberjacks (5-2) chopped their way to a 5-0 first half lead.

Jock Cooperrider chipped in with a goal and three assists for Hebron, while Peter Quigley and Sang Hoon Choo provided support with a pair of assists each.

MPA golf tourney

Bryant, Soracco shine

VASSALBORO — A handful of area golfers had solid days at the MPA state golf individual championships at Natanis Golf Course on Saturday.

Joe Bryant of St. Dom’s and Karli Soracco of Leavitt were the low golfers from the tri-county region Saturday, each firing an 82 in their respective divisions.

Soracco negotiated the Arrowhead course at Natanis while playing in the girls’ open division, and placed second overall behind Ali Prescott of Fort Kent, who came in at 79, three shots better.

Bryant’s 82 was good for sixth overall in Class C, also played on the Arrowhead course. Teammates Zach DeBlois and Isaac Reed tied with Winthrop’s Tyler Foster for eighth, each shooting an 84.

Seth Sweet of Madison was the Class C champion.

In Class A, Gorham’s Mike Arsenault fired a 72 on the Tomahawk course to win that division by five. Dom Clements of Mt. Blue (86) and Kevin Shrader of Lewiston (94) also competed.

In Class B, also on the Tomahawk course, Greg martin of Ellsworth edged Seward Matel of Lincoln Academy by one to claim the top honors. Poland golfers Joey Violette (86) and Jacon Neal (98) also completed the tournament.
