LEWISTON — Memorial services honoring the life of Oscar “Pants” Lebel was celebrated Friday afternoon at the Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home with Chaplain Kathleen O’Wril presiding.
During the service, Oscar’s son-in-law, Sandy Nesbit, sang “Eye is on the Sparrow,” “Paper Dolls” and “Yes, I Have No Bananas,” which were all favorite songs of Mr. Lebel. Oscar’s son-in-law, David Ezhaya, shared words of remembrance about his father-in-law and what he meant to the entire Lebel family. David shared a note from Oscar’s oldest grandson, Nick, who wrote about his most favorite memories of his grandfather and was unable to attend the service because he lives in Colorado. David also read a letter from Matthew Sherman, Pant’s nephew, who also wanted to share memories of his favorite uncle.
There were also several in attendance that spoke of their fond memories of Mr. Lebel and also how he attained his nickname, “Pants.” Mr. Jerry Clifford recalled that his friend, Oscar “Pants” Lebel, played football for Lewiston High School in 1936 and when Pant’s would run out to the football field his football pants covered two thirds of his body and hence the nickname “Pants,” which stayed with him throughout out his life.
Prior to concluding services, the U.S. Air Force honor detail played taps and presented our country’s flag to Pant’s wife, Isabelle, in recognition of her husband’s service to his country during World War II.
A reception of fellowship was held at the conclusion of services at Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home in Lewiston. A memorial funeral Mass will later be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.
