FARMINGTON — Ronald Ray Ramsey Sr. 79, of Jay, died Saturday, Oct. 16, with his family by his side at Sandy River Rehabilitation and Living Center in Farmington.

He was born May 13, 1931, in Fernadale, Mich., the son of Walter Ray and Ruth Mary (Rogers) Ramsey. He attended school in El Monte, Calif., and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1948.

Ron was married on June 21, 1952, in Franklin, Mass., to Beatrice Ann Fredrickson. They lived in Lucerne Valley, Calif., before returning to Franklin. He joined the Franklin Police Department in 1960, retiring as Sgt. in 1981. They moved to Jay in 1982 and he worked as a Jay school bus driver for 13 years.

He was a lifetime member of the Farmington Elks and the Frank L. Mitchell V.F.W. Post No. 3335 in Jay and a member of the AmVets Post No. 33, also in Jay.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ann Ramsey of Jay; daughters, Ruth Engel and husband, Peter, of Concord, N.H., Jean Tower and husband, John, of Hopkinton, N.H.; son, Roy Ramsey and wife, Julia, of Jay; daughter-in-law, Caroline Ramsey, of Lincoln, R.I.; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Guay, Matthew and Corey Engel, Sara and Emily Tower, Keith Hingey and financée, Cara Wheeler, Ronald R. Ramsey III and his wife, Melissa, Diann Ramsey, and Travis and Kelly Ramsey; two great-grandsons, Frank and Tanner; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Ronald R. Ramsey Jr.; his parents, Ruth and Walter Ray Ramsey; his sister, Ramona Melin; and his brother, Russell Ramsey.
