I guess that I am a little confused. I have heard from many who are against the casino and their favorite saying is, “It’s not the way Maine is supposed to be.”
How is Maine supposed to be?
Is it supposed to be empty store fronts, closed businesses and higher taxes to make up for their disappearance?
I have not heard one valid idea from some of these individuals on how to make a difference, except we do not need a casino.
I was born and brought up here in this area and all I have seen happening for the past several years is more “For sale” signs, “Out of business,” or “Closed.” They seem to be very popular signs.
I say to people who say, “It’s not the way Maine should be,” please come up with some viable ways to save a devastated area. They have had seven years since a casino project was first proposed and I am very saddened by what this area has been reduced to.
Like so many small towns across the country, we have to be opened-minded and ready for change, even if it is different from the past.
My thought is that 100 or so acres of land will not have that much of a devastating effect on the whole state or this area. To those who feel crime and divorce rates will climb, check out the local newspaper.
