FARMINGTON — Paul Emile Begin, 86, of Jay, passed away on Oct. 16, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, following a long illness surrounded by his family.

Paul was born April 17, 1924, in Chisholm, the son of Ernest and Marie Louise (Lapointe) Begin. He was a graduate of Jay High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic stationed in England.

After leaving the Army, he became a self-employed skilled carpenter, building new homes and remodeling others. He took great pride in his work.

Paul served on the Board of Directors for Tri-Town Credit Union and Otis Federal Credit Union. He was an Eagle Scout and a life-member of the Frank L. Mitchell VFW Post 3335 and the Lane-Dube Amvets Post 33, both of Jay and the American Legion. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Jay and achieved the 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus.

Paul is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 49 years, of Jay; two daughters, Debbie Robichaud and her husband, Michael, of Yarmouth and Linda Begin of South Portland; four grandchildren, Thomas, Michelle, Olivia and Matthew Robichaud; his sister, Claire Begin Lockney and her husband, Sam, of Yucaipa, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Jackie Fetro and Ferne Duguay; and a brother, Henry Begin.
