RUMFORD — Alfa R. Palmer, 95, of Common Road, Dixfield, died Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Rumford Hospital with her daughter Joyce at her side.
She was born in Dixfield, May 14, 1915, a daughter of Samuel D. and Alfa (McInnis) Rand.
Alfa was educated in Dixfield and Mexico schools, graduating third in her class from Mexico High School, Class of 1933.
She married Hubert D. Palmer on Aug. 27, 1939, in Rumford; together they celebrated 70 years of marriage and raised three children. Hubert passed away on Sept. 10, 2009.
Alfa loved knitting, sewing, hunting and fishing. She was an avid sports fan and loved attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.
Surviving are her children, Hubert S. Palmer and wife, Nancy, of Mexico, Joyce P. Farwell of Dixfield and Brian L. Palmer and wife, Elizabeth, of Dixfield; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Hubert Palmer in 2009; two brothers, Lloyd Rand and Clarence Rand; and a sister, Mary Rand.
