BUCKFIELD — Town Manager Glen Holmes informed selectmen Tuesday night that the Bennett property on Depot Street had been cleaned up and the junk trucked away.

“I was pleased with Roger Bennett’s attitude during the cleanup,” Holmes said. “He participated in the cleanup and was cordial to workers.”

Holmes also said he had taken a video showing all of the material that was removed from the site. He told the board that this cleanup concluded the 2004 court action.

Holmes told the board there were several other sites around town that needed cleaning up. He said there are at least 100 cars on one property.

A junkyard is defined as having three or more unregistered vehicles and other junk. The board asked Holmes to check around town and bring them a list of junkyards.

Selectman Robin Buswell questioned Holmes on the number of hours listed for outside trucking in the quarterly financial report.

“I think it’s too much,” Buswell said.

He also questioned the hours of work spent on his road.

Holmes said he would check the records and answer the questions at the next meeting.

Buswell did not agree to approve the financial report. Approval was tabled until the next regular meeting.

The board approved the Budget Committee bylaws with the change that Holmes would take minutes and report back to selectmen.

The Seat Belt Policy was approved. It basically says that all town workers will wear seat belts when operating town equipment and driving town vehicles.

The Social Services Committee, which oversees the distribution of money to social service organizations, gave its recommendations to selectmen. It was approved as recommended.

The amount expended will be $4,500, the same as approved at the annual town meeting in June. This amount was $4,200 less than last year’s disbursement and $7,611.50 less than requested by service organizations.

There will be a special selectmen meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25, to set the tax rate.
