CANTON — James L. “Jim” Adley, 65, of Canton, died unexpectedly, Monday, Oct. 18, at his home.

He was born Oct. 7, 1945, in Rumford, a son of Chandler H. and Irene D. (Viger) Adley. Jim attended Rumford and Canton schools.

He worked at various jobs throughout the years and many will remember him as a bouncer at the Barnboard Night Club in Rumford.

Jim was a past member of the Masons and Canton Volunteer Fire Department. As a young man, he enjoyed boxing and spending time with his family. He was active as a public servant in the communities he lived volunteering and holding offices as selectmen and/or board members.

Jim is survived by a son, Carey-Paul Harnden of Rumford; his dear friend and companion, Josephine Rice of Canton; sisters, Elaine Trufant and her husband, John, of Richmond, Eleanor Adley of Hampden and Barbara Parrella of Rumford; brothers, Thomas Adley and his wife, Jolene, of Canton and Stanley Jonaitis of Portland; granddaughter, Hunter Nelson; grandson, Chase Nelson of Rumford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings, Garfield Adley, Gloria McGlaughlin and Stanwood Adley.
