WINTHROP — Folk icon Jonathan Edwards, probably best known for his singles “Sunshine” and “Shanty,” will team up with Jesse Colin Young, lead singer of the legendary classic rock band The Youngbloods, for a Nov. 12 concert at the Winthrop Performing Arts Center.

Edwards, now a Maine resident, burst onto the music scene about four decades ago with the mega-hit “Sunshine,” a cheerful anthem of defiance written at the height of the Vietnam War era.

Today, after releasing 15 albums since the early 1970s, the singer-songerwriter’s music is still original and relevant.

Young, whose career began in Greenwich Village in the 1960s, released two solo albums before forming The Youngbloods. He gained notoriety when the “Get Together” single by the Youngbloods became a Top 10 hit worldwide as well as a prominent soundtrack for peace. After seven group releases, Young began the production of more than 15 solo albums, plus a live album, “On the Road,” with his touring band.

The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Reserved seats are $35; general admission seats, $30. Call 441-1463 or visit www.winthropedcorp.org.
