NORWAY — Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary met on Oct. 13 with President Joyce Clifford presiding. Three new members were welcomed: Kathy Neary, Tammy Hill and Teresa Pattle.

The membership chair reported that the group has reached 90 percent of paid dues.

Ellen Snow reported that she has donated many baby items, with an estimated value of $670, to Mitzi Sequoia of Community Service.

Barbara Henley reported that she will go to the Guy E. Rowe School for Veterans Day with retired Marine Dennis Bowden to teach students why veterans are honored on that day. She will read them a story, bring them a picture to color and treats.

Henley is education chairwoman and will observe education week by visiting the Rowe school and will bring items to help the teachers in their classrooms. This is part of the National American Legion Auxiliary program.

Members voted the following donations: funds for Henley to help with the Americanism and education projects; Golden Age Games for Togus veterans; Western Maine Veterans’ Home Tree of Caring, honoring Post 82 veterans, also their Christmas Gift Shop; Togus Christmas gift shop; Alzheimer’s Walk; and money to pay the Post’s fuel bill for October.

The Post and Unit are working with the local National Guard to help each other on special projects and will help provide desserts for their family Christmas party.

It was reported that the donation box for Oxford Hills Food Pantry is going well and many have helped.

A turkey supper was served during the meeting by Marilyn Jones, Kim Hansen, Dayle Burnell and Deanna Merchant. Boys and Girls State delegates were invited to attend the supper to report on their experiences.

Girl Staters in attendance were Jasinda Mills, Deanna Merchant and Demi Rideout. The Boys State delegates were not in attendance.
