BUCKFIELD — Oxford County Sheriff Wayne Gallant met with his officers Wednesday as the investigation into a fatal crash on Route 117 entered its second day.

By Wednesday night, no charges had been filed in the collision that killed 62-year-old Linda Belanger of Oxford, who was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Patrick Belanger.

He and a couple riding in the back seat were hospitalized with injuries suffered when their car was hit broadside at the intersection of Route 117 and Bryant Road.

The names of the couple in the back seat were not available Wednesday night. Gallant did not know their conditions. Police said earlier that the victims were expected to survive their injuries.

Police said Patrick Belanger was driving a Dodge Stratus west on Route 117 when the car was struck by a Honda CR-V driven by Annie Holden, 20, of Bridgton. It appeared Holden ran through the stop sign at the end of Bryant Road, police said.

Holden experienced pain, police said, but her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. She was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. The remaining victims were being treated at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

The end of Bryant Road is not a particularly busy one. A left leads to Turner, a right to Buckfield. On Wednesday morning, the roadway was still littered with glass and other debris from the wreck, and black skid marks were visible at the intersection.

Maine State Police were assisting with the investigation. Gallant said he expected it would be the end of the week before they address the possibility of criminal charges.

“We’re still following up on a lot of things,” the sheriff said.
