LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine will offer a Guard Start course. The class sessions will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 and from 1 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.

Guard Start is an American Red Cross program for 11- to 14-year-olds to prepare them to take the lifeguarding course when they turn 15. Children will learn safety in and around water, how to help others without entering the water in an emergency and how to recognize and respond to an emergency.

The cost of the session is $72 for members and $82 for nonmembers. Space is limited and registration is requested by Oct. 27. For more information or to register, call the YWCA of Central Maine at 795-4050.
