LEWISTON — Neo-folk singer-songwriter Katie Daggett Webber of Farmingdale will bring her powerful voice and rhythmic guitar to the DownStage at L/A Arts on Friday, Oct. 22.

A teenager in the late 1970s, Webber listened to Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and Steven Tyler. “I would sneak up to my older sister’s bedroom, put on her headphones and sing along for hours up there. I’ve always wanted to be a singer,” Webber said.

To that end, she earned an associate’s degree from the University of Maine at Augusta’s music program and continued to pursue her music career while raising a family. She sang in several local bands and wrote her first song, “Miriam’s Song,” while her daughter was taking a an afternoon nap.

One of her songs was included on a WCLZ (Maine radio station) homegrown CD and she was hired to sing in a Maine tourism advertisement. She has performed at Slates in Hallowell and the Jameson Tavern in Freeport.

“Last year I bought a Taylor (guitar), which has an awesome sound,” said Webber, who is the process of recording her first solo CD, slated for release in early 2011.

Doors will open at 7 for the 7:30 p.m. performance, which will last about an hour and a half with no intermission. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Call 782-7228 or visit www.laarts.org. The DownStage at L/A Arts is at 5 Canal Street Alley, just off the first block of Pine Street. Parking is free in the Camden National Bank parking lot on Canal Street.
