The injury list continues to grow as the Lewiston Maineiacs embark on their longest road trip of the season.

Lewiston will skate in its next four games away from the Androsocggin Bank Colisee over a nine day stretch, and will spend the entire time on the road. And the Maineiacs will begin the trip short yet another body.

Late Thursday, as the team traveled through Montreal, the Maineiacs confirmed that they will call up affiliated goaltender Antoine Bibeau, whom they drafted in the fifth round at last summer’s QMJHL entry draft.

“(Andrey) Makarov has a bad groin right now, and we didn’t want to chance it,” Lewiston coach J.F. Houle said.

Makarov was the goalie of record Wednesday as the Maineiacs suffered just their second loss in seven games, a 6-0 setback to the Shawinigan Cataractes.

Bibeau, meanwhile, currently plays for the Les Estacades of Trois Riviere. In nine games there this season, he has a 3.04 GAA and a .905 save percentage.

Lewiston is already without Cole Hawes, Matthew Bissonnette, Ian Saab and Jonah Coonishish-Coon due to injuries.

The first stop on the team’s lengthy road trip is Gatineau for a pair. After a slow start to the season, the Olympiques are on a roll. In their last four games, they are 3-1, and have defeated division-leading Drummondville.

But, Houle said, the first thing the team needs to do isn’t worry about Gatineau.

“It’s a quick turnaround, but I think it’s better that way,” Houle said. “The next game coming quicker will help us to forget about (Wednesday). We have to play with more intensity. We have to move on from this loss. We’ve played pretty good as of late, and we have to remember that.”

Gatineau started with five losses in its first six games of the season, but has rebounded to 6-6-1-1 through 14 games.

“One thing they’ve always had, they have a great coach,” Houle said of the Olympiques. “And their goalie, he’s been their guy this year.”

Most of the Olympiques tough games to begin the season were played without starter Maxime Clermont, who was away at a professional training camp. Since returning, he is 5-2-1-1 with a shutout.

Lewiston will counter, at least in the first game of the trip, with 20-year-old Nick Champion. Coming off a stellar week for which he was named the league’s No. 1 star, Champion rested Wednesday and will start at least Friday’s game.

“We’ll see how that goes, but we’ll start with Champion for sure,” Houle said.

Champion is 7-1 this season, with a 2.31 GAA and a .906 save percentage.

From Gatineau, Lewiston will travel to face Rimouski on Wednesday, followed by a date Froday with juggernaut Drummondville. The team returns home to face league-leading Quebec on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
