Here we are, still in a “recession,” “slow time,” or whatever it is called. A lot of folks are out of work.
A group of businesspeople in the state want to invest $160 million in a casino. That’s a lot, and … it’s out of their pockets, not the taxpayers’. That adds up to a lot of taxable property; high-end stuff with good revenue.
Then there are the related jobs — good-paying, benefits. Wow. That all adds up to improvements.
All the people who would be hired would be paying taxes, shopping, going out to eat, paying their bills, helping the local economy again.
It is difficult to believe all the numbers we’ve had thrown at us lately. People from each side make it sound like theirs are correct, but whatever … more jobs and more work equal a better life for those who don’t have a job now.
This development should be welcomed with open arms.
You know, Bangor is laughing all the way to the bank.
I support a “yes” vote on Question 1.
