LISBON – Former Lisbon High School athlete and administrator Jeff Ramich welcomes friends and former students of Joe Woodhead to share their memories of the late Lisbon coach on his internet radio show this weekend.

Ramich, now the co-curricular coordinator at Gray-New Gloucester High School, will devote his two-hour program, “Locker Room Talk,” to the former Lisbon High School football, track and field and wrestling coach.

Woodhead, also an esteemed track and field coach at Bates College, died Monday of a heart attack. He was 76.

Those wishing to pay tribute to Woodhead are encouraged to email Ramich at [email protected] in advance or call the station between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. at 370-WQRY.

Ramich launched the weekly show devoted to local and regional sports in September. Listeners may access the live stream by going to the station’s website, www.wqry106.com.

Elliot Ave. LL announces meeting

LEWISTON – Elliot Avenue Little League will hold a meeting Nov. 7 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ramada Inn. The purpose of the meeting is to elect all board positions and officers for the league for the 2011 season.

Boys’ volleyball club league starting

SACO – The Maine Games  is creating the Southern Maine High School Volleyball League for club teams from area high schools, scheduled to begin play in March 2011.

Teams from all over Southern Maine are expected to take advantage of the opportunity for high school boys to play the sport, which has been a Maine Principals’ Association-sanctioned girls’ fall activity for several years.

The boys’ league will hold practices during the week, then play a five-tournament schedule on Saturdays from mid-March through April. The league expects to hold a championship Saturday, April 30.

USA Volleyball will support the league and is offering the opportunity to apply for matching grants to help teams get started. teams ill not be funded by individual schools but by players, their families and boosters’ efforts in addition to the potential for the matching USA Volleyball grants. For the registration fee, each player will receive a team jersey, a practice T-shirt and a volleyball, in addition to entry into the league tournaments.
