Lois Snowe-Mello has presented bills to bring competition to the health insurance market. She co-sponsored bills to lower premiums. Every attempt was blocked by the Democratic majority.
She worked diligently supporting risk pools. Experts were invited to committee meetings from states where risk pools work very well. Democrats disregarded the testimony. Their answer was another program.
Dirigo helped many; the results could have been better.
She co-sponsored a bill to remove two words (“must” and “will”) in Maine law that caused insurance companies to exit the insurance market. Those words seem small, except they forced insurers offering health coverage in Maine to offer unaffordable plans. She supported a representative from Fortis Health who testified that Fortis would come back to Maine if the two words were changed. They presented plans with significantly lower premiums.
The result: a flat “no” from the Democrats.
We need change. I support Lois Snowe-Mello.
