Recently, I saw an article urging people in Lewiston to vote against the casino in Oxford, pitting Lewiston against Oxford. If each votes against the other, no one will get the casino.

Some citizens will vote against the Oxford casino because they are the beneficiaries, in part, of Hollywood Slots. They have their own interests in mind.

There are also some large employers that are against the casinos. They are afraid of losing employees and may have to pay higher wages to compete.

The ad stated that the casino in Lewiston would bring revitalization to downtown Lewiston. Where is there room for the casino and expansion?

Anyone who has been to Foxwoods or any other casino, knows that traffic and parking are big issues. Who will pay for new roads, bridges or bypasses?

On the other hand, the proposed site in Oxford along Route 26 is more adaptable to the needs of a casino.

Lewiston and Auburn residents already commute to Portland or Augusta for jobs; Oxford would be no farther. There are a lot of residual benefits for Lewiston and Auburn, and other towns nearby.

Jobs are the most important problem in this area right now. Other goals and needs will come after, because of those jobs.

It would be better to have the casino in this area than in Bangor.

Lewiston and Auburn would be advised to vote yes.
