I feel compelled to write and acknowledge Sen. John Nutting because he cares deeply about education. As a teacher for more than 25 years, I must speak up for public education and for Sen. Nutting who, for many years, has openly supported education for the area’s children and for the children of Maine.
Some people advocate cutting taxes and saving money on education by using a school choice voucher system. The reason vouchers won’t help all the people of Maine is that they would drain off much-needed funds to support religious or other private schools, which can save money by not serving all children.
We are our brothers’ keepers and we need to protect all our children and community members by voting for someone who will work for all of us, not just the anti-tax, pro-voucher people.
I hope others will join me in support of John Nutting.
