PORTLAND — Forbidden Broadway will serve up a funny, satirical roast of Broadway shows featuring outrageous costumes, silly sendups of familiar songs and madcap impressions on Friday, Nov. 5, at Merrill Auditorium.
From a version of “Grease” called “You’re the One That I Hate!” to a bitter, cigarette-smoking Annie who sings “I’m 30 years old… tomorrow,” no iconic Broadway moment is left unscathed.
Forbidden Broadway, winner of a Tony Award honor for excellence in theater, will present parodies of “Mamma Mia!,” “Wicked,” “South Pacific,” “Gypsy” and at least 25 other shows performed in New York City’s Theater District.
Ovations Offstage will offer a free preshow lecture on musical parody at 6:30 p.m. in the rehearsal hall. A group of USM musical theater majors will join Maine singer/actor/musical director Ed Reichert in an informal presentation of some of the original Broadway songs lampooned by Forbidden Broadway.
The concert will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets, ranging from $38 to $54, may be purchased through PortTix, the Merrill Auditorium box office at 20 Myrtle St.; by calling 842-0400; or online at www.portlandovations.org.
