AUBURN — Oriental-style rugs, handmade by Maureen Tibbetts, Melanie Ness and other Auburn Art Club members, will be featured at the next meeting of the club to take place Monday, Nov. 1, at the United Methodist Church, Park Avenue. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. Tea and homemade refreshments will follow the presentation.
The handmade rugs are multi-colored with elaborate knots and stitches making up the “oriental” designs. Tibbetts said she will bring some seven or eight rugs, varying in size from small 12-inch by 18-inch “mini-rugs” to some five- by seven-feet in size.
She will discuss the designing and making of the rugs, including those from commercial patterns and those crafted from her own designs. Her hobby of rug-making began more than 35 years ago and continues today, she said.
Assisting Tibbetts as hostesses for the afternoon will be Grace Keene, June Spear and Elaine McDonough.
The Auburn Art Club was founded in 1880. Limited to 50 women from Auburn, the club both encourages and recognizes fine arts in all its forms. The president is Bonnie Ross of Auburn.
