LEWISTON — David G. Sanborn, 65, of Swain Road, Rumford, died Monday, Oct. 25, at the Central Maine Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Waterville, May 30, 1945, the son of C. Alfred and Marion (Hunt) Sanborn, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1963. He also served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968.
David worked as a welder at Boise Cascade Paper Co. in Rumford for many years until retirement in March of this year.
He was a member of Napoleon Ouellette Post 24, American Legion and the 40 & 8; Robert Shand Post 1641, VFW; Blazing Star Lodge 30 AF & AM; Kora Temple Shrine; Rumford Lodge of Elks 862; Rumford Falls Aerie 1248, F.O.E.; LeParesseux Snowshoe Club; and served as a volunteer at the V.A. in Togus and was instrumental in bringing the V.A. Clinic to Rumford. He was an avid bird watcher and loved watching the wildlife in his back yard.
David was married Feb. 2, 2002 in Rumford, to Judith Goodoff Billings, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include his daughter, Lisa Bourret and partner, Michelle Walton, of Rumford; stepdaughters, Linda Frith and husband, Ron, of Sanford, Melody Coulombe and husband Vito Jr., of Rumford, Tina Erwin of Rumford and Ronda Billings Morra and husband, David, of South Boston, Mass.; stepsons, Richard Hebert Jr. and companion, Florita, of Durham, Bruce Hebert of Windham and Vance Billings of Dixfield; a sister, Joyce Richard and companion, Michael Hackett, of Dixfield; three grandchildren, Ryan, Christopher and Sarah Bourret; seven stepgrandchildren, Steven and Scott Early, Richard Hebert III, Brittany Coulombe, Joshua and Gabrielle Erwin, and Jackson Huard; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and his former wife, Shirley Viger of Rumford.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Allen Sanborn.
