AUBURN — The popular jack-o’-lantern parade — run for eight years along Gracelawn Road in Auburn — has moved indoors.

The fundraiser for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program has relocated to Wallingford’s Fruit House on nearby Perkins Ridge Road.

The free event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Contests will be held for best pumpkin and best costume with cash prizes for first and second place.

Anyone who wishes to enter a pumpkin must drop if off between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thursday or Friday.

Founder Helen Ouellette canceled the parade last year out of respect for the passing of her son John, who inspired the event.

In its eight years, the parade has raised $38,000 for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.

Ouellette was happy to bring back the parade in its new form, she said in a written statement.

“It would back up traffic in all directions, usually rained one of the nights and was always exposed to seasonal winds, which made it difficult for the Boy Scouts to keep the flames burning in the pumpkins,” she said.
