PARIS — The Paris Public Library, as a member of the Maine InfoNet Download Library, now offers e-books to its patrons. Maine InfoNet has expanded to include the download of e-books as well as audiobooks.
The e-book collection encompasses fiction and nonfiction titles, with fiction including the genres of historical, romance, mystery, thriller, classic, science fiction and fantasy.
Users may borrow up to three items for a maximum of two weeks each. The e-books may be “returned” earlier. The e-book or audiobook computer files will expire after two weeks, becoming unreadable by the device, when they may be deleted.
The Maine InfoNet e-book system utilities the Adobe EPUB and PDF software, meaning most computers and e-book readers, including the Sony Reader and the Barnes and Noble’s Nook, can be used to download and read titles from its collection. Amazon Kindles and Apple iPads, both using different systems, cannot use Maine InfoNet e-books. The Maine InfoNet e-books can also be read on many smart phones.
Paris Public Library patrons may log in into the Maine InfoNet download library by selecting the Paris Public Library and entering their library card numbers. The library’s staff can provide patrons with their account numbers so they may access the collection. The staff can also activate accounts or assist if patrons have any difficulties.
