LEWISTON — Elsie J. Briggs, 88, of Buckfield, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Marshwood Center for Health Care.

She was born in Berlin, N.H., Aug. 30, 1922, the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara (Gilbert) Chabot. She was educated in Lewiston schools and was married Aug. 26, 1938, to Darrell E. Briggs, who predeceased her on May 29, 2005.

Elsie was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening and she will be remembered for her special affection for dogs.

She is survived by three daughters, Rita Humphrey and husband, William, of Buckfield, Irene Guilmette of Lewiston and Beatrice Briggs and husband, Lee, of South Monmouth; a son, John Briggs of Lewiston; 23 grandchildren; many great and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Riley of Augusta; two brothers, Charles and John Chabot, both of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Darrell; a daughter, Jeanette Poussard; and several brothers and sisters.
