SOMERVILLE, Mass. — After a scoreless tie through 110 minutes, Bates outscored Tufts 3-2 in penalty kicks to knock off the No. 1 seeded Jumbos in the NESCAC women’ soccer playoffs Sunday.

The No. 8 Bobcats (6-7-2) advance to face second-ranked Amherst on Saturday.

Bates goalie Annie Burns made some stellar saves to keep the game scoreless through regulation. Tufts controlled the action, outshooting Bates, 20-6.

Tufts nearly won the game in the first overtime, but Burns stopped a Sarah Nolet header off a corner kick.

Alex Vandeventer, Amanda Sirianni and Meredith Poore scored for Bates during the penalty-kick session. Burns made three saves, including a apair of diving stops to give Bates the victory.
