Frank Iovieno believes marching band competition is making a comeback.

And he should know. He has directed Lewiston High School’s marching band for four first-place awards in Class C competition this fall.

That’s quite an accomplishment considering that only 19 of the 50 members of Lewiston’s marching band play instruments. The rest make up the drill and flag team and center guard.

Lewiston has received recognition in four catagories this year. The band has won awards four times for best music and best color guard, and three times for best percussion and best drum major.
