PARIS — Members of the Mexico High School Class of 1953 paid tribute on Oct. 6 to their teacher, Rosine Stowell Durgin, with a birthday party to mark her 100th birthday.
Durgin was born in Canton on Oct. 3, 1910. Her family settled in Canton where she and her sister attended school. Her sister passed away at age 15.
She attended Farmington Normal School and upon graduation, taught English and public speaking.
District 94 Representative Teresa Hayes presented Durgin with a sentiment from the 124th Legislature.
District 93 Representative Sheryl Briggs was also present because Durgin taught at the Abbott Elementary School, 16 years at Mexico High School, five years at Oxford Hills High School as well as Sunday School at the Paris Baptist Church.
Durgin now lives in her home on Paris Hill and enjoys seeing her former students.
