SOUTH PARIS — George A. Powell, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 2. He was a resident of the Maine Veterans’ Home.

Mr. Powell was born in Mexico, Sept. 2, 1932, the son of George E. and Della (Kenard) Powell. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Powell was employed at both the Oxford Paper Co. and Rumford Hospital in the maintenance department.

Mr. Powell’s wife, Jo-Anne (Blaisdell) Powell passed away two years ago after 56 years together. His faith and his family were the two most important things in his life.

In his younger days, he loved shooting pool and has spent many happy hours under the hood of a car tinkering on an engine or building a tractor. He was loved dearly and will be missed.

Mr. Powell is survived by a son, David Powell and his wife, Carolyn, of Milton Township; a daughter, Gail Simmons of Portland; a former daughter-in-law, Tracy White of Rumford; two brothers, Hartley Farnum of Colorado, and Richard Powell of Turner; two sisters, Mildred Barrett of Mexico and Helen Brown of Buckfield; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Powell was predeceased by a brother, Carroll Powell; and a granddaughter, Amy Jo Powell.
