LEWISTON — Andrea M. Poirier, 103, of 90 Hogan Road, Lewiston, died at her home with her family by her side on Monday, Nov. 1.

She was born in Lewiston, Nov. 11, 1906, the oldest child of August and Marie Jacob Gagnon. Educated in local schools, she married Rodolphe Poirier on her 24th birthday, Nov. 11, 1930. Rodolphe, known to most people as “Ralph,” the love of her life, passed away in September 1988.

Prior to her marriage, Andrea worked for several years in the local textile industry and after raising her family, she started a licensed home for children, with many of the children sleeping all week with “Mimi” and “Daddy O,” as they were called. A member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Prince of Peace Parish, she also belonged to the Ladies of St. Anne, La Survivance Francaise, Montagnard Club, Music Literary Club and the Lewiston, Sabattus and Litchfield Senior Citizens Clubs.

She loved to travel, loved to dance, always loved a good joke and was an avid card player, belonging to a pinochle league and teaching all of her grandchildren and the children she babysat how to play.

Survivors include two sons, Robert and wife, Lorraine, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Bertrand of Manchester, N.H.; three daughters, Julie Durland of Glen St. Mary, Fla., Pauline Parker, her caregiver, of Lewiston and Claire and husband, Gilles Veilleux, of Lisbon; a former son-in-law, Walter Parker of Florida; two sisters-in-law, Lucienne Gagnon of Florida, and Ella Gagnon of Maryland; a brother-in-law, Roger Verville of New Hampshire; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Denis, Robert, Origene and Rosaire Gagnon; and four sisters, Jeanne Lebel, Juliette Gagnon, Florence Verville and infant, Marie Gagnon.
