OXFORD — A tulip-planting ceremony to mark National Adoption Month will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Oxford Advent Christian Church on Route 26.
For the past month, Second Best Ministries has been selling Rembrandt tulip bulb sponsorships, as have Pizza Huts across Maine. The bulbs will be planted in a heart-shaped garden.
“The multi-colored tulips represent adoption — a blending of heritage, background, interests, to create something of beauty and permanence,” said Second Best Ministries leader Phil DuBois of Oxford. “The funds raised are helping to continue the Heart Gallery project, which displays photos of children in state custody who are awaiting to be adopted.”
The project, previously funded by state money, was a casualty of state budget cuts, DuBois said. Second Best Ministries took over the project July 1 as a nonprofit organization, without any state funds.
For information on adoption or regarding the ceremony, people may contact DuBois at 890-0726.
