AUBURN — Shelby Dobransky, a Lewiston High School senior who plans to pursue a career as a kindergarten teacher, spoke to kindergarten students at Park Avenue School on Thursday about the connection between reading and literacy.

Dobransky joined three other college-bound students from Edward Little and Lewiston high schools, presenting T-shirts to the 60 kindergarten students.

Sponsored by College for ME-Androscoggin, the festivities officially kicked off the organization’s Fall into College campaign. The shirts which state, “Future College Graduate,” have the kindergarten students’ high school graduation year as well as the logos of all the colleges and universities in Androscoggin County.

The event was one of several in Auburn, Lewiston and Turner where high school seniors from all three communities spoke with the younger students about the connection between literacy and college aspirations.

The goal of College for ME-Androscoggin is to double the number of degree holders in Androscoggin County by 2015.
