Board: Sabattus selectmen

Met: Wednesday night

Transfer station, part I

Issue: The town is celebrating Recycling Day on Nov. 20, an annual resident-appreciation day in Sabattus.

The scoop: The celebration is at the transfer station from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Up next: In addition to free doughnuts and coffee, and free knickknacks such as key chains and magnets, the station will raffle off T-shirts, gloves and a case of clear trash bags. (Bringing trash to the transfer station is free to residents but it has to be in clear bags.)

Transfer station, part II

Issue: Somebody — or somebodies — apparently had an issue finding the transfer station.

The scoop: Public works has picked up roughly 20 black bags of trash on Marsh Road recently left by people who dump and run.

Up next: They know who you are. Public works went through the bags and found names.

Road improvements

Issue: The Androscoggin Transportation Resource Center has approved its share of a $1 million project to fix Pleasant Hill Road in 2012-13 and a $750,000 project to repair and improve sidewalks on Greene Street in 2013-15.

The scoop: Sabattus would have to pick up 10 percent of each project as its share of the cost ($100,000, $75,000).

Up next: Residents will decide whether or not to do that at town meeting next spring.

County dispatch

Issue: After being invited by selectmen, County Commissioner Randy Greenwood laid out three scenarios that commissioners are looking at to combine 911 dispatching in the area.

The scoop: Cost for the three options range from $130,000 to $450,000. Commissioners and others are pursuing a grant to study options.

Up next: It’s unclear how much Sabattus would have to shoulder, but Chairman Scott Lansley suggested starting to put money aside to save up.
