LEWISTON — The search for a new Lewiston school superintendent is expected to end Monday when the School Committee votes on its choice.
Committee members will go into executive session Monday night to discuss and vote on the candidates.
“Then after that we will re-enter public session and take a vote,” Chairman Jim Handy said.
The committee will decide between two finalists. One is Bill Webster, superintendent of Regional School Unit 24, as reported by the Ellsworth American. RSU 24 includes coastal towns around Ellsworth.
Webster told the Ellsworth American he was happy in Ellsworth, but Lewiston is “a fascinating district. It has Maine’s highest percentage of minority students. This is, perhaps, the next step for me professionally.”
The other finalist has not been named.
The two were recommended by a search committee that included a college dean and high school principal, School Committee members, a police chief, parents, students, business leaders and teachers.
Search committee members said they were looking for a replacement who had fiscal experience, management skills and commitment for helping students.
Levesque, 64, said in January that he was retiring because of his age. “There are other things I want to do in my life,” he said.
He’s scheduled to retire in December, and has said he plans to captain a boat and sail with his wife in a warm climate.
