FARMINGTON — Phyllis R. Lake, 93, of Weld Road, Wilton, passed peacefully in the early afternoon hours of Monday, Nov. 1, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
Phyllis was born March 21, 1917, in Norway, to Herman and Lida (Prince) Richardson. She was a 1935 graduate of Wilton Academy and attended a business college in Bangor for a year, returning to Wilton to help her grandmother manage the Boarding House in Dryden.
On Sept. 17, 1937, she married Hollis P. Lake in Wilton and they moved to their home on the Weld Road. She proudly lived for 73 years in the same home where she and Hollis happily raised their four daughters. He preceded her in death in 2005. A devoted wife and mother, she was also employed in the Department of Woodlands at IP in Jay for many years.
She was a member of the Wilton Congregational Church, the Co-operative Extension and the Franklin Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, quilting and playing cards. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sense of humor and her story-telling abilities. She was lovingly cherished and will be deeply missed by her large extended family.
She is survived by three daughters, June Lake Todt and her husband, Martin, of Hampstead, N.H., Beth Lake Knowles and her husband, James S. II, of Harwich, Mass., and Kris Lake Ramos and her husband, George, of Canton; her son-in-law, Robert Trask of Wilton; 11 grandchildren, David Trask, Donna Trask Buttarrazzi, Heidi Todt Leroux, Holly Todt Boyd, James S. Knowles III, Jennifer Knowles McLaughlin, Ryan White and Sarah, Daniel, Jonathan and Hannah Ramos; 13 cherished great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her eldest daughter, Lida Lake Trask, who passed away in May of this year; and two half brothers, Herman “Butch” Richardson and Stanley “Stan” Richardson.
